Hey everybody! I didn't intend on totally neglecting the blog for half a month, but well....life happened and I realized it's been a long time since posting. So, I'm going to try to work my way backward through events in our lives....
Last night was Spencer's track banquet....It was at the skating rink. The coach rented out the whole place and it was so much fun complete with pizza, drinks, medals, and printed sweatsuits with the team name/logo for each kid. We love his coach. It's her first year teaching, she's getting married, and her first year to coach track. She is starting the track team at his middle school, so Spencer thinks that's pretty special to be on an inaugural team. They had a lot of fun. I was most impressed by the integrity and manners of the middle school team members...Even while skating, they were encouraging each other (and laughing too...but it's hard not to laugh when someone busts their butt.)
It was my kids first time skating!! I can't believe it....I grew up at the skating rink and went skating almost every Friday night until they shut down the skating rink....I know many of you who grew up in the 80's and early 90's can relate with me...I mean speed skating, "trucking", Hokey Pokey, and Limbo were staples....(skating to "Jump" by Van Halen...I know I'm really dating myself. )Good times. How could I have forgotten to show my kids this wonderful form of exercise?...Spencer was a good sport. He must have busted about 40 times, but he got up 41 so that's all that mattered.
Natalie got frustrated a few times and preferred to skate back by the wall....You can see her in the background of this pic...
Justus...well, there's no fear....but when you're 4 1/2....you don't really care who's looking....He'd get up some speed and boom.....so after Trevis' back wore out, he stuck to playing on the motorcycle game (we didn't put any money in it, but it entertained him for a long time.)
Trevis and I reminisced about how when we were young teenagers we could really tear a rink up....It was tempting to put on some skates.....I didn't want to embarrass Spencer though and I can do things in my mind that my body doesn't think is a good idea....So, I went with the idea that I'd like to walk today and I stood on the side. {smile}
It was a great, short season and it was fun surprising the coach with some gifts of her own...think I might try taking the kids ice skating this summer (I'll definately need Trevis on this one.) Nothing like busting your butt and your pants being wet, huh?
Blessings,
