Racing Wrap Up--Cross Country State Championships

October 23rd was the culmination of all that Spencer had been preparing for. Since the varsity teams qualified for the state championships, the junior varsity kids got to run too. We left at 5 a.m. that Saturday morning headed to Knoxville. It was a brisk morning, but the temps soon warmed up. At the advice of a friend, I made my way to the t-shirt stand before they sold out....Spencer and Trevis walked the course. We watched the elementary school races and the time was just flying by chatting with other parents and friends we knew.... Here's some pics of before the race:

The coach  huddled the team and prayed before the race. Yes, he goes to a public school and we're thankful for teachers and coaches who pray.:)

At last, the gun sounded and the runners were off!

When Spencer gets to Natalie and me, we are yelling, "SPRINT! SPRINT!" That way, he knows he's almost to the finish line!!

A cold bottle of water right after he crossed the finish line....
Distance = 2 miles
Time = 15:03 personal best
Place = 32nd

Most of his team with Coach Festervand!

What a wonderful season! This sport is so wonderful for the kids. It keeps them healthy and active. They are part of a team, yet still an individual and they can always work on improving. The parents are supportive and encouraging. There's a buzz in the atmosphere. It was a lot of fun. Congrats Spencer on a great racing season!

With Much Love,
