I did it!

At the beginning of the summer, I made a commitment that I was going to learn to do something new physically, spiritually, and academically (so to speak). So, I headed back to the gym to set an example to my son (haha) who can run in his sleep effortless...

I ran into a friend of mine and I shared at the beginning of the summer that I was telling her about my inability to run...I was like, "No, I don't think you understand. Even when I was in the best shape of my life (teen years) I was not able to run....like not more than 1/3 mile." She recommended the "couch to 5K" program and all you do is "google" it and do the plan. ok....so I started out and was feeling good, but as you all know ...the walk time decreases and the jog time increases....I kind of stalled out at the 10 minute point but I made myself run intervals after that. I wouldn't let myself quit until I got to 30 minutes.

I knew there was a race coming up. It's the annual Fenton Payne 5K...I knew Spencer and Trevis would run b/c Trevis has really been getting at it. I thought, well....Natalie and Justus could do the one mile fun run...hmm.....could I really do a 5K? I don't know...so I signed us all up. Spencer has been a crazy running machine and he has been so kind ....encouraging his OLD mother...ha!

It was this past Saturday...Here is a picture of the family.

This is Spencer headed toward the finish line...
Mom took these pics as I was coming around the last corner toward the finish line..S-O-A-K-E-D!

Natalie really surprised me running one mile in just over 9 minutes. (We all keep trying to talk her into running cross-country next year. She is so not feeling it yet.)

Trevis running alongside Justus. He said Justus ran the whole mile....woo hoo...

The race (aside from running) was fun...The atmosphere was great. My goal was to finish in less than a 12 minute mile average and I just made it...The first mile I did great (for me). The second I did good. The last mile...well....not so good, but all in all...I finished and pushed myself to do something I had never done before. :)

A quick God story.....On Friday morning, I was going to go through Marta (emissions testing) and my "service" light came on in my van. I knew I needed an oil change. I told the man at the testing center that I forgot my light was on and that I was going to fail...He asked me what light was on and said, "no m'am. you can still pass with that one on." Blessing #1.....At the race the next day, they were giving away door prizes and guess what Trevis won?!? A free oil change and tire rotation....Blessing #2 God is so good.
