pumpkin time!

It's pumpking carving time round our house. This past Sunday, we were sittin' around and the realization hit us that Halloween was only one week away and we hadn't even bought pumpkins yet. So....we all hopped in the van and headed to good ole Walmart and the kids each picked them out one.

It's a tradition around here that the kids will draw the face they want on the pumpkin on a piece of paper first. Then, I try to draw on the pumpkin exactly what they drew on the paper. (This eliminates frustration ;)) After they critique my drawing and I tweek it to their expectations, I carve it out. Trevis always cuts the top off and the kids always dig the insides out with Daddy helping.

Before I post several pics of the process, can you go ahead and guess which pumpkin is Natalie's and which one is Spencer's? I know it's a toughie, but you can do it.....

Here is the collage of Natalie's process:

Here's Spencer's collage:

ok. ok. I know you're not surprised here. The different expressions on the pumpkins' faces remind me a lot of how I've felt this week. Something exciting happens or just regular ordinary life and I look like Natalie's pumpkin....Something unexpected, unfullfilled expectations, or my kids bickering, in a squabble, or one of them being impulsive and I look like Spencer's.....Anybody else out there that can relate?
It's been a tough week parenting this week. Sometimes you have those weeks. So....hopefully I can have a night out with Trevis, refresh, and get ready for tomorrow.

Trick or treat!
