Oasis--Hidden Treasure in the Middle of Town
About 4 weeks ago, my husband and I discovered Gateway Island. My curiosity got the best of me....I could see these lights at night from the road far off in the distance across from one of my favorite shopping centers (Ross--Dress for Less). The lights were quaint like something you'd see in "Narnia". I told him that we had to find out what was over there. We wound through where they are building the new medical center, through some office buildings, and finally to a gravel road. What a treasure we found! It is called "Gateway Island". It was beautiful! I couldn't wait to get out and check it out. There were fountains and waterfalls and an island where a wedding had previously taken place that afternoon. Ducks were by the dozens and geese were flying in for a landing. The sun was setting and the air was getting a little cooler-perfect night for a walk. In our city/town, we are blessed with a lot of "greenways" with paved walking trails that wind through the woods, but they close at sunset. At Gateway Island, the perfect time to go right now is at sunset or later b/c the little lights come on, it's a little cooler, and it's romantic for a date. We took the kids out there a couple of weeks later after we had stopped at Baskin Robbins for dollar scoop night. (Tuesday 6 or later is $1 for a kid's scoop.) There are metal/wire picnic tables that overlook the water. We had a little bit of bread so they fed the ducks. About a week later, Natalie was begging to go back again. So, right before our vacation, I took them back. They both love feeding the ducks, but aren't so excited about the geese. Geese are snippy and hissy. You can tell from the above picture that they are feeding the ducks to the left, but are looking toward the right at the approaching geese.
It's cheap entertainment. We picked up a loaf of bread for 78 cents at Kroger, but it's probably cheaper at Aldi. Building memories....I love to feed the ducks.
Here's a good pic I found online:
To many more date night walks and to feeding the ducks!!
With much love,
